Pastor Benny Collins, Assistant Pastor of Outreach
SVC on Mission
“If there be any one point in which the Christian church ought to keep its fervor at a white heat,
it is concerning missions. If there be anything about which we cannot tolerate lukewarmness, it
is in the matter of sending the gospel to a dying world.” — Charles Spurgeon
His words still ring true today. In a time when many churches lean toward entertainment-
driven or seeker-sensitive ministry models, Stephens Valley Church remains committed to
honoring the Lord and trusting Him in every aspect of church life.
We could highlight many wonderful ministries at SVC—worship, preaching, Sunday School,
fellowship groups, Bible studies, Parent’s Day Out—but today, let’s focus on missions.
Many in our congregation are actively involved in mission work throughout Nashville. It’s a joy
to see such urgency for the Gospel and a deep desire to impact our community. As a church, we
support 21 missionaries and ministries serving in Africa, Asia, Europe, and across the United
States. In fact, 10% of our general giving goes directly to missions. What a blessing it is to serve
and give, both locally and globally!
Upcoming Mission Trips in 2026
- Palmer Home for Children – Hernando, MS (January 17–19)
This will be our first trip to Palmer Home as a church, though I’ve led many teams there over
the past decade. Palmer Home has been offering hope and healing to children for over 130
years. This family-friendly trip is perfect for all ages. My own daughters have served
there—even as toddlers! Whether playing on the playground or helping with simple chores,
they were serving the Lord and encouraging others.
Palmer Home also has a ministry right here in Nashville. In the future, we hope to serve
“across the street,” “across the state,” and “across the world.” If you have young children or
health limitations that make international travel difficult, this is a wonderful opportunity to get
involved. - Belize – June 6–12
We’ll return to Belize to partner with Thirst Missions and Path of Grace Church in the Orange
Walk district. Pastor Alex and his congregation are faithfully serving their community. After
years of meeting under a tent, they were able to purchase a church building that needs
significant repairs.
Last year, our team helped paint the sanctuary, donated funds for repairs, improved
landscaping, led VBS, and delivered groceries and supplies to local families. This summer, our
VBS raised money to help Path of Grace lay tile in their sanctuary, which previously had only a
concrete floor.
I stay in close contact with Pastor Alex and receive regular updates. His church is making a real
impact, and we’re honored to support their work. If you’re considering joining the Belize team,
know that it’s a week filled with growth, service, and Gospel impact.
We’ll hold an interest meeting for both trips on Sunday, December 7, right after worship in the
Café. This is simply a time to learn more, ask questions, and pray about whether one of these
trips might be right for you. Lunch will be provided.
Mission trips are a step of faith. I recently read about a young man who said, “But I have never
felt any compelling call to give my life for missionary service.” The speaker replied, “Are you
sure you are within calling distance?” May we all be within calling distance!
Whether we serve a neighbor, a friend, or a church family in another country, may our hearts
be ready to go and share the good news of the Gospel!
